The Landscape of Acadia

Last week, all 6th graders had the opportunity to learn about how the landscape of Acadia came to be.  Students Zoomed with rangers from the Park who helped provide context for the geology, history, and science that has shaped the Acadia we know and love today.

The ranger talks, called "A Story Written in the Landscape," explored how the Park's formation involved "colliding continents, ancient oceans, intruding magma chambers, and bulldozing glaciers."  With their Ranger guides, students we able to investigate the rocks and landscape of the Park and learn about its dynamic history and ongoing changes.

The program is part of the National Parks Service's efforts to provide Distance Learning opportunities for students all over the country.  Acadia's programming also includes topics such as Physics in Nature, Marine Chemistry, and the Science of Climate Change.
