Cape Elizabeth High School is a public four-year comprehensive high school of approximately 550 students. We have been named to U.S. News and World Report's list of top high schools for the last eight consecutive years. We were also listed among America's Top 500 High Schools by Newsweek for 2015.
There are 63 professional staff members; 71 percent have advanced degrees. Cape Elizabeth High School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges and by the State of Maine.
The school complex was built in 1969, renovated in 2005-06. The average class size is 22 students.
The high school offers college preparatory, vocational and special education programs for all students. There is a regional vocational technical center in Portland, study at the nearby university and technical college campus, work-study and independent study.
Physical education facilities at the high school include a large gymnasium and a six-lane, 25-yard pool. Outdoors are tennis courts, baseball, softball and multi-purpose fields and a six-lane track surrounding a soccer field.

Amnesty International, Art Club, Bartleby, BBQ Team, Boys/Girls State, Computer Club, Debate Team, Gay/Straight Alliance, Graduation Committee, Math Team, Mock Trial, Natural Helpers, Operation Smile, Prom Committee, Robotics Team, Siddartha School Project, Speech Team, Student Rescue, Ultimate, Volunteer Club, Yearbook
Arts: CEHS has an award-winning Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, 3 large Jazz Ensembles
and 3 Jazz Combos, Concert Choir, Select Choir and Treble Choir. We participate in District, State and National competitions and festivals. CEHS has won first place in the Berklee College Jazz Festival for Small American High Schools five of the past six years. One-half of CEHS students take a visual arts class. Our students have won prizes in art competitions and work has been displayed at the Portland Museum of Art and the Maine College of Art. CEHS Theatre is a leader in State One-Act Festival plays and is often commended for its technical merits and inventive design. Over a hundred students participate in theater each year.
Athletics: Seventy percent of CEHS students participate in the athletic program; comprised of 36 teams, 23 of which are varsity. Activities include: Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, Football, Swimming, Diving, Indoor Track, Nordic Skiing, Lacrosse, Golf, Tennis, Track, Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, Baseball and Softball. Over the past 15 years CEHS has won in excess of 50 State Championships. CEHS has also won in excess of 60 Western Maine Conference Championships.
The library media center has more than 10,000 volumes, 100 periodicals and numerous audio-visual materials.
