Gabe Zimpritch Symposium

The annual Gabe Zimpritch Poetry Symposium was honored by the presence of poet Sarah Berkeley to Thomas Memorial Library on May 1, 2025 to share her work with CEHS students. Sara grew up in Ireland. Some of the Things I’ve Seen (Wake Forest University Press, 2023) is her seventh collection of poetry. It was published in Ireland as The Last Cold Day (Gallery Press, 2022), which won the inaugural Yeats Society Sligo Poetry prize in 2023. It is the only national prize for a full collection of poetry in Ireland and recognizes The Last Cold Day as the best collection of work written by an Irish poet in 2022. Sara lives in the Hudson Valley where she works full time as a hospice nurse.

The annual event honors Gabe Zimpritch, a member of the Cape Elizabeth High School class of 1996, who died suddenly on May 2, 1995. Participating students included Norah Shroder, Jess Thayer, Hannah Lowenstein, Matilda Gustafson, Liam Nudd, Finn Gilbert, Claire Gaudrault, Reese Huot, Foxen Worthing, Whitman Falk, Sami Kallel, and Maddy Turgelsky.
